To mention again... we don't hound people for donations. It defeats
the purpose of having an enjoyable free show. Don't feel
obligated. Just bring the kids and enjoy.
Each year we select a different organization to support with donations (yours
and ours) collected in the donation box near the curb. The requirements
for selection of a charity are always the same:
-
It must benefit children who have life threatening disabilities.
-
The organization must be a non-profit entity (501 C 3 or equivalent) in operation for 10 years or more.
-
A least 85% of funds must go to the actual cause (< 15% for their administration cost)
-
100% of money is donated to the actual charity and NO money goes to pay for the display or setting it up.
-
Your donations are fully tax deductable under IRS rules.
Basically, we want to make sure our efforts, our money, and your donations go to a respectable organization. Our part in this effort is that we become a sponsor of the charity and organize this event with neighbors and other contributors.
Our charity selection for 2011 is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Of all
the organizations we have supported over the years, this one does the
best job. We always work directly with an organization so you know we
are an approved sponsor. You can follow the progress of daily
