FM Transmitter

The below unit broadcasts our synchronized music.  This lets you hear full stereo music from the comfort of your car without having the sound disturb our neighbors.  We broadcast on a FM radio station where there are no local stations within at least 40 miles.  I built this transmitter from a kit of electronic parts.  Yes, this is an FCC approved transmitter.  The signal range is within 1/4 mile around the house. Audio from the computer sends synchronized music to the transmitter from the same software program that controls the lights.  A separate piece of equipment sends "RDS" (Radio Data Service) information to newer radios that have this feature.  Most radios since 2007 are compatible.  When songs play on the radio, the song title and other information is displayed on your radio LCD.

During non-show times, we constantly transmit a wide variety of easy listening music from 1970 to 2009.  Roughly every third song is a Christmas song. This is for us and our neighbors.  If you drive by the house and hear soft music or Christmas music, then its a good sign that the show isn't running yet, or is over for the night.  There are occasional announcements of show times, weather, news, etc to let you know you have the correct station.
